slip-cast cylindrical forms, saw-cut and overfired to induce bending
3" diameter x 12" tall (prior to firing)
The kiln, typically used to temper and strengthen a ceramic piece, is given
a chance to play an active role in the form-making process. By overfiring these
pieces, I am setting the work up for controlled failure. The possibility of using
the kiln as a tool that can re-shape a mass-produced item starts to ask
questions about the alternate functions of our tools.
