Baan Sai Ma (Sai Ma House) is our home/studio/workshop in Nonthaburi, 20 minutes north of Bangkok. It was designed to be a hyper-flexible structure, able to accomodate the future rhythms of our lives and studio practice. Its steel moment frame structure allows walls to be relocated, deleted, and added with minimal waste and zero disruption to the structure. Its formal components-- exterior walkways, deep overhangs, cross-ventilation, and raised living spaces-- are translated from traditional Thai houses and materialized in corrugated sheet steel, polycarbonate, and plywood. The architecture gradually shifts from enclosed (at the workshop) to open (towards the living areas), the building itself getting lighter as it floats above the jungle.
Baan Sai Ma is currently under construction. Please visit our construction blog at www.ifitsaperfectday.com for weekly progress.
